Winnipeg, Manitoba July 23, 2001 “Where does one begin to talk about the vast body of work that is Freud?”, is the opening inquiry of this amusing, clever and irreverent romp into psychoanalysis and its practitioners. It is largely staged as a lecture that takes a look at some of the sacred cows of Freudian theory and lets the air out of them, udderly. The desire to sleep with your mother, penis envy, obsessive personality traits and perversion – all these come under the quirky lens of this funny Montreal company. This play also has one of the most interesting uses of a single audience member I’ve yet seen at a Fringe play. It will do no one any physical harm (it may in fact give him pleasure) but there’s a good chance the chosen one will need a shrink after the encounter, or at the very least, a cold shower... — Robert Enright |
