Saskatoon, Saskatchewana August 8, 2002 Good Morning, Beijing
Planning on attending broadcasting school this fall? Tune in to this monologue. Jerome Saibil gives you a good idea of what it's like working on-air, especially when idealism runs into the brick wall of corporate profits. This is the true story of a job Saibil fell into while visiting China a couple of years ago as a 19-year-old. He started working for China Radio International, doing the "Electric Lunch Hour" (gotta love those radio names) on EasyFM. It's fascinating listening to the Montreal native switch into his radio voice to do intros, outros and an interview with Arnold Schwarzenegger. Saibil is, or was, passionate about radio. As a kid, he practiced the art of introducing songs and mixing music. His enthusiasm, and his excellent storytelling skills, push the story along. — Cam Fuller |
